I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and was educated at the University of Notre Dame (BBA in Accounting) and the University of Detroit Law School (Juris Doctor). I have practiced as a Certified Public Accountant with Peat, Marwick, was a principal of Marantette & Company (member of the Detroit and Midwest Stock Exchanges) and am a member of the Michigan Bar Association.
I have been engaged in corporate finance for over 30 years, concentrating on the financing of real property and capital equipment in association with a number of the largest banks in the world including Bank of America, Credit Anstalt, Fleet Boston Financial, Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company and Sanwa Bank of Japan.
After retiring from the banking industry and moving to South Carolina, I became interested in Real Estate, leading to the purchase of the only national real estate franchise located in Fairfield County. Currently I am Broker In Charge of United Country/Carolina Real Estate Company, LLC with offices in Camden and Winnsboro, South Carolina. The Winnsboro franchise was originally a United National franchise with the office located downtown. After 18 years of serving the Fairfield County area in different locations, Sean and Mary have moved the office back to the downtown area.
Our agency specializes in rural real estate, particularly historic higher end homes, equine estates, lake properties and rural land tracts. Building on my international contacts as well as my experience developed over many years in banking, sales and marketing the agency works with clients from all over the world.
On a personal note, Mary and I are native Michiganders that have lived in many different areas of the country because of our careers, but decided to make the South Carolina "Midlands" our home. We have five grown children, four grandchildren and are caregivers to Mary's father "Dad" who is 95. I stay involved and devote a lot of my spare time to the local community. We live on Lake Wateree and I enjoy reading, gardening, boating, swimming and like to think of myself as a wine afficianado.

Mary Schaeffner, Owner/Sales Associate
After a career in sales and marketing, raising five children and moving to South Carolina, I became interested in Real Estate, leading to the purchase of the only national real estate franchise located in Fairfield County. Currently my husband Sean and I own United Country/Carolina Real Estate Company, LLC with offices in Camden and Winnsboro, South Carolina. The Winnsboro franchise was originally a United National franchise with the office located downtown. After 14 years of serving the Fairfield County area in different locations, we have recently moved the office back to the downtown area.
